Smart Templates is a productivity tool designed to optimize team performance and establish company standards. Yes, Smart Templates is available for both Jira Cloud and Data Center hosting types.


  1. How to install the Smart Template for Jira? 

You'll need admin or system admin permissions to install Smart Template. You can install it directly from the Atlassian Marketplace.


  1. Is Smart Templates GDPR compliant and what are the data privacy policies?

  1. Can I add a checklist to my templates?

Sure! With having both Smart Checklist and Smart Templates apps installed, you can add checklists right to your issue templates! Learn more on how to add checklists to your issue templates here.


Smart Templates functionality ⭐️


  1. How can I create a template? 

There are two ways to create the first template:

Create issue template from scratch: 

Navigate to the Template list from the app section on the side bar, click on Create Template, Add Issues, field values and even checklists and click save

Save existing issue hierarchy as a template: 

Navigate to an Issue you want to save as a Template, go to the Smart Templates, Click Save structure as template and type in the Template name and click OK. You will see a notification with the link to the Templates list. 


  1. Where can I see all the templates? 

The Template list can be accessed from the Project sidebar ➡️ Apps ➡️ Smart Templates. 


  1. Does Smart Template support variables? 

Yes! Variables in Smart Templates allow you to dynamically insert data into Jira issues created from a template, making process of applying templates more flexible and adaptable.  Find the list of supported Variables here and Smart Variables here.


  1. Where can I see all the issues, created from a template? 

You can find the list of issues that were created from a template in the History tab. The issues that were created automatically via the Scheduler will be shown here as well. The tab is available when you open any of your templates for editing. 


  1. Can I schedule issue creation? 

Yes, you can automate issues creation of repetitive tasks with a built-in template scheduler. You can use CRON, Interval and Interval with deadline trigger types. 


  1. Can I use templates in automation?

With a Webhook link, you can trigger issue creation from a template using Jira Automation or third-party tools like Postman. It works with simple templates without variables, and you can also send different types of variables in the request body to enhance your processes even further.
